Far far in the South there is a white and arid land where no man life has growth up until the twenty century. It was a great challenge for humanity reaching the Antarctic pole. The scandinavian Amundsen is called to be the first man in the Pole. Also United States’ Scott. Mr. Shalketon tried it before. He was a perfect trial to get what nature offers us as a challenge. As a prove that can be approved by Human being. Like the conquest of Everest. It was a great moment for humanity. “We can” age. The period where many things where to discover in this world and many men where disposed to bring that victory to common men and women.
Antartide is the sixth continent. There is land down the ice. We cannot see it. But it is there. I swore you that. Along this long XX century many nations have tried to conquest the Antartide. Since 1885, where the western nations divided Africa to themselves, the world was a land where everything was able to be divided. A piece for a nation, nothing for the common. That was the central idea. “Mine is for me and myself” was the ideology of every egoist nation.
First (why not) I must tell u the interest on Nazis in Antartide. It is well known that Hitler wanted there a base. Many Gamed crosses were thrown to “earth” from a plane in the early 30’s. And after the war many boats and peoples over there said that german speaking unknown U - Boots were over the Antartide and around. Also may be told that a surprising United States mission to Antartide with thousands of military members and Navy troops had an “incident” and many of them died …. With no explaining. ¿It was a nazi base in Antartide? Almost every story can be told about a continent we know very little about.
Politically the nations wanted a piece of that. Norway, Australia, France, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, United Kingdom and the reserve of United states of claiming a piece in future. And maybe other ones. Like South Africa… Or China and India in future…
But one special thing must be said now. It is signed an International Treaty where it is stipulated that every earth nation freeze its claim to Antartide. The whole common world that is established under the United Nations “umbrella” tells us that the deep seas with the Arctic and Antarctic lands owe to the whole humanity and not to a concrete nation. So is the Moon. There is no United States sector. And it is good to US not to be one. Here in earth and there in the Moon. Because. If Antartide would be one day a political territory. An specific land, it will be a New nation. Antarctic nation.
Antartide is a hope to Human future. An open window to a common community. A new type of coexistence. If we insist in going on with old models of Human understanding it will be catastrophically to US and to the planet. Let’s make an effort for Human future. Antartide is of every Human. It is legality. But it is also beauty. And nature. And prosperity. And life. For all of US (forget about he Antarctic oil).
Knowledge of what we are, what we have and where we go will make us free to live in common. It is in our hands. And remember one thing we all must know. This Earth planet is not ours. Not of our generation and even also not Human. Terra nostra.
