Irlanda ingresó en las Comunidades Europeas en 1972. Pero a su ingreso se le olvido un paso fundamental que los demás con si ingreso llevaron a cabo: la calificación de su lengua propia como lengua oficial de la hoy ya Unión Europea. Han tenido que pasar 35 años para que el gobierno irlandés subsanara el error. El 1 de enero de 2007 el gaélico se suma al ramillete de lenguas oficiales de la UE.

In November 2006 democrats won the congressional elections. Congress and senate are now blue colored and the donkey will rule, at least, 2 years. Nancy Pelosi, from California, will be the Speaker of the House of representatives. The third person on the succession line. If President dies and Vice-President resigns Pelosi shall be the President of the United States of America.

El 1 de enero de 2007 se produjo el relevo en la secretaría general de las Naciones Unidas. El Sur Koreano Ban Ki Moon sustituyó al ghanés Kofi Anan tras haber permanecido en el puesto dos mandatos de 5 años. Tal y como sucedió con el predecesor de Kofi Anan, el egipcio Boutros Boutros Galhi. Alguien muy poderoso dentro del Consejo de Seguridad no le quería ver otra vez de Secretario General.

The first day of January Bulgaria an Rumania enters to be full members of the European Union. They become to be the 26th and 27th members. Actually they will be included (as they negotiated) in the Niza treaty. But probably not many people know that with the act of adhesion to EU they ratified the European Constitution. So there will be 18 states in that 27 states EU that had ratified the new contract with Europe.

Somalia is the most famous No-Nation this days on the news. Ethiopia is in war with the Islamic auto proclaimed Somali government. And probably they shall won. Who knows if it shall be like in Afghanistan or Irak, where the Americans (and the coalition of will) won the battle but is loosing the war. In this case there is an important difference: the Islamists claims Ethiopian and Djibouti territories for the “Great Somalia”.

1989, December the 25th. Previously in other Eastern European nations there have been changes in their minds, on the streets and a few changed or were close to change their governments too. What was an utopia for some and a nightmare for others happened blowing in the wind 40 years of socialism. In our case, Rumania, in a few days Ceaucescu died like Mussolini in 1945. Why? And How?

After many years (decades, centuries or millenniums) of crisis and wars over the Holy Land in the 4th of September 1986, the same day of the birth of Eusko Alkartasuna, the Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat accepted the United Nations Security Council resolution number 242. In that resolution, that was accused when it was born by the Palestinian people and leaders that it was a treason act against their legitimate right to all Palestine, included implicitly the recognition by the PLO of the State of Israel.

The Nation of the Western Sahara is recognized by 45 of the 192 states in United Nations, principally in Latin America and Africa. The African Union (AU) also recognizes the territory as a state. No European nation or UN Security Council permanent member does.

Augusto Pinochet Ugarte: Genocida, Asesino, Militar, Ultraconservador, Ultracatólico y nieto de vascos. Murio en CHile ayer por la tarde sin haber purgado la multitud de crímenes que cometiera en vida. Aun me acuerdo de un fin de semana de 1998 (hace ya 8 años) en casa, viendo la tele despues de comer, cuando en mitad del telediario de tele 5 que estaba viendo surgió una noticia que me pareció en aquellos momentos inconcebible: habian detenido en Londres al Pinocho del cono sur, al organizador de la operacion Condor y al golpista que derrocó al legítimo presidente Salvador Allende.
