1989, December the 25th. Previously in other Eastern European nations there have been changes in their minds, on the streets and a few changed or were close to change their governments too. What was an utopia for some and a nightmare for others happened blowing in the wind 40 years of socialism. In our case, Rumania, in a few days Ceaucescu died like Mussolini in 1945. Why? And How?

Like in other soviet nations, like KGB in USSR or Stasi in DDR, the Securitade was the secret police of Rumania, where Ceaucescu ruled with an iron fist since two decades before. Suddenly in 1989 everything started to come down, to fall. Hungary opened their border to eastern Germans to pass to western Germany. Czechoslovakia started their revolution and Solidarnorst were close to win the elections in Poland. The wall fall in November. But Rumania stood awake with their ancient leader.

The most honourable citizen of the republic came back from a trip on those days. As usual everybody stood quiet when he started giving his speech to the masses. But on the back of the mass a few started to make signs of disapproval. In a few time the tide of discontent and rebellion spread through the whole plaza. Ceaucescu had to run with his wife to a helicopter trying to escape.

Probably as many other situations in that region and on that time the revolution in Rumania was clear to happen, but as it was told, Ceaucescu did not want to disappear so easy, so he resisted until that point of change. On that plaza. That day. 17 years ago. That day all ended and all started. I will not say for good or not. But it was not easy and it carried many deaths. The only case in that moment. A military special court judged and sentenced Ceaucescu and his wife, like the partisans did with Mussolini and Clara Petaci, to death.

Now, after 17 years of trials of development, political transition to democracy as liberalism conceptualises it , economical progressive implementation of the market and the free trade based economy and a military integration in the NATO and western defensive structures, is the day, as the Government assures, to condemn and renegade from the Communist Regime. This days Rumania will vote and probably get a public condemn of the past. Their own past. Probably to enter in the EU with a clean past and a new and positive (ism) liberal mind?
