When you wish upon a star… a good single, isn’t it? Since a few years a new idea has been imposed in political campaigns and political marketing: the wishful thinking. When you want that a political issue must go by one determinate way you put your best to make that possible. To caught the dream and turn it real, from the unreal to the papers and, most of the times, to the ballots and the votes.
In November 2004 there was a crucial election on the United States. Constitutional President George W. Bush raced again for presidency against John Forbes Kerry (Democratic Party). Democrats wanted the republicans fall, so started to speculate through their closest papers that the republicans were going down on every prospective studio it was made. But reality shocked them with a re election. A frustrated dream.
In November 2006 republicans were close to be defeated by the Democrats in the midterm elections (Congress, Senate and Governors). They wished a victory so two weeks before the election day started to tell about a recovery of the republican vote and a possibly short victory for them. But even what they wanted appeared as a possibly, it never happened and the new Congress is for the donkeys.
Wishful thinking is put on the real scenario our objective scenario. Put it on society’s horizon and make them believe that the horizon they see is what we see and need. Certainly is not new, but now it is published as and objective vision. At least with pretension to be so. Studies, news, social prospecting, interviews, tests or similar made by one foundation, society or institution shall be used with this porpoise of manipulation of the people and their believes, feelings and hopes, trying in the best scenario that they are the only one on this world that has those kind of thinking.
Anyway, it has to be said that it is not only an American only scenario. In other countries in the world it is used this type of marketing. For example, in the Basque Country, it is used against Eusko Alkartasuna and in Catalonia it was used against Esquerra Republicana.
